| Snapshot of site (from archive.org) from Aug 5, 2025 |
Site: https://b1.org/
So in their latest site, they seemed to have removed the B1 Free Archiver download page, and now they're doing online stuff such as, "Unrar online, Unzip online, unzip, unrar, rar, extract online, uncompress files". [Source: Site above]. They did this change in early August, 2025. Here is a before snapshot, and after snapshot.
Did they discontinue or something? Idk. Why am I talking about B1 Free Archiver? Because it is popular at 4shared for some reason, and MUGEN stuff get archived in it over there. I also realized they stopped updating the app sometime in 2015.
There are some things I don't like about B1 Free Archiver, which they can improve on, but 1 big thing is that they seem to not preserve the original folder dates after you extract it. I'm talking about preserving the modified dates of the folder, and B1 doesn't have any option I could find that could do that.
I like new competition, so I went to check out other archivers besides the popular 7z, rar, and zip. Then, I came across this new one called PowerArchiver with their own archive format (.pa). However, the free version is trial only for 30 days or something like that. It's a paid software eventually. So, I tried it out, archived a folder with files, then extracted it, but then a facepalm: the folder's modified dates weren't preserved in their original dates. Aww... I can't find any options to preserve them. Power Archiver should have this by default.
I also tried some other archivers, both old and new. Right now, PeaZip (.pea), and FreeArc (.arc) both preserve the folder modified dates by default, which is nice. Gonna try some more archivers I can find.
Happy Holidays and have a happy New Year!
P.S. Forgot to add. If anyone needs B1 Free Archiver, here you go: https://web.archive.org/web/20241219230546/http://b1.org/smart-download/0/os%3Dwindows&src%3Dbtn_orng/B1FreeArchiver_1.7.120.exe
