So on April 24, 2026, Lycos decided to shutdown their web hosting services Angelfire and Tripod. RIP. Thomas Hsieh was famous for his F1 character which was released on April 1st, 2002. F1 rivaled in cheapness back in the day with ShinRyoga & NeoAnkh's Omega Tom Hanks which was released on April 1, 2003, and VIB's O char mais apelao do mundo which was released in October, 2001. F1 remained undefeated for many of years, until he was defeated by... idk at the moment. If you know the first char to defeat F1 and the history behind that, let us know below.

Rogue

Description: This was the first character I ever released, way back in the year 2000. It was an old version of Rogue using sprites ripped from the Playstation version of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Because she was ripped from Playstation, she was missing a lot of frames of animation. Back then, CPS2 encryption had yet to be cracked, so all CPS2 games had to be ripped from Playstation emulator instead of an arcade emulator. MUGEN character conversions have come a long way since then.

NES Mario

Sure Mario from the NES is primitive, but he carries a lot of nostalgic value. NES Mario controls like the NES version Mario, unfortunately, this means his only attack is stomping on his opponents.

RIP Angelfire and Tripod

RIP Angelfire and Tripod... I was kinda late to the party, but Lycos on April 24, 2026 decided to permanently shutdown their web hosting services Angelfire and Tripod.

Many MUGEN sites were hosted by Angelfire and Tripod. Just a few months ago I was browsing Tripod MUGEN sites, and now they are no more. Too many times the good ol days are being erased during my life time. Wow. But, Internet Archive is still around, and they have archived many Angelfire and Tripod sites.

Someone told me about 4 months ago that Angelfire got shutdown, and I was hoping that Lycos would fix it, but they didn't. Instead, this was a sign that Lycos was planning to shut down Angelfire and Tripod in April, 2026. That was the worst that I feared, and it came true. Lycos's site is still up though.

Is it time to move on? Not for me. I'm still kicking it in the past. Well, more work is put on my table. I'll be posting authors' creations that were hosted on Angelfire and Tripod... suitable for this site and my collections.

Also, RIP to Freewebs/Webs. They got shutdown a few years ago.
